Biopolicy and biosecurity call-to-action paper collaboration

Dear All,

Hello, I’m Niamh, a UK-based collaborator with a scientific background in Molecular Biology and Bioengineering. My role involves multi-institute collaborations across LATAM for SynBio (synthetic biology) project incubations and DeSci funding. I am a new member of the Technology working group.
I am forming a collaborative taskforce involving research institutes and government departments in Mexico and LATAM on publishing a Call-to-Action paper on biopolicy and biosecurity legislation/recommendations to protect and expand current uses of GMOs and SynBio research across the LATAM biotech landscape.
I am looking to connect with interested partners from associated research institutes and universities across LATAM in working with me on this initiative, and am happy to arrange a meeting to discuss this.
Please contact me at my primary address: kennerdaleniamh228@gmail.com for further information and questions

Kind regards, Niamh

Dear Niamh,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing the details of your initiative. It is a pleasure to connect with a fellow member of the Technology working group.

At Glyxon Biolabs, we are very interested in your proposal regarding the collaborative taskforce. The development of a Call-to-Action paper on biopolicy and biosecurity legislation is a vital step for the SynBio and GMO research landscape in Mexico and across LATAM.

In 2023, I collaborated with researchers from different backgrounds on a publication about the adoption and challenges of synthetic biology in South America.

At that time Mexico was excluded due to its striking differences, its further integration with North America as a block and different practices and science spending budgets. Nevertheless, Mexico as a Latin American country, possesses great dissimilarities compared to the USA and Canada, which are not always reflected in its economic integration. I still retain valuable information about DeSci groups, NGOs, and companies in Mexico and LATAM and I believe it could help the research you are leading.

We would be happy to arrange a meeting to discuss how we might collaborate on this initiative and support the development of these recommendations. Please let us know your availability, or feel free to propose a few times that work for you.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

David.
