Open Boards Summit - Thursday October 24th, 2024

I’m involved in co-convening the event below - it should be useful!
Especially if you have or plan to create an organisation around an open source biology/science mission!

Jenny

We are excited to announce the first-ever Open Boards Summit, which will take place online on Thursday October 24th, 2024 from 15:00 to 18:00 UTC.

The event is envisioned as a collaborative and interactive forum in which to explore and discuss the range of challenges, cycles, evolutions, and surprises that are recurrently navigated but rarely documented or collectively validated in the course of governing organizations with open-centric missions.

Participating projects will come from open technology, open data, open knowledge, open science contexts and more. Board members as well as project and community leaders are encouraged to attend and collaboratively capture best practices, document resource gaps, and collectively envision more effective, more equitable and more impactful open organizations.

Complete information, including information on how to participate, can be found at http://openboardssummit.org/ The event is co-organized by Philanthropy Matters and Aspiration.

We thank any and all who are able to spread the word and let others know about this convening.

Thanks Jenny, that looks great! This is in the evening here, though, when I have child duties, so it’s challenging for me to attend the 3h. Do you think I could partially attend, or will there be a recording?

Best wishes,
Tobias

I don’t think a recording is planned but I will check about partial attendance with our facilitator and get back to you! I don’t know exactly how things will be structured and if it would be amenable.

Sorry about the timezone inconvenience!

Jenny

Hi Tobey

Update: no recording and the agenda is still coming together, but people who can attend the whole meeting will likely be prioritised. Advice is to apply if you have time, as that will get you on the list for future activities.

A clarification on target audience as I realised myself when reading this that it wasn’t fully clear! The priority audience are a) board members; b) community or project managers or other staff/volunteers at open organisations, who work with their board members and can share their perspective.
