Hello Reclone Community

It’s coming to the end of 2025 already and we’re looking forward to you joining us for our last Community Meeting for the year! This call will be on 2025-12-17T16:00:00Z - please note that the start time is 2h later than usual!
We will hear from Anton Molina (b.next, USA), presenting about Nucleus: an open source ecosystem for building synthetic cells.

Building synthetic cells offers a powerful alternative to manipulating living systems in our pursuit of mastering engineering biology. Nucleus is an open source platform for synthetic cell builders maintained by b.next—an SF-based company focused on rebuilding biology for engineering. Nucleus offers standardized protocols, design tools, component libraries, and reference designs for the full process of cell building. By providing both the integration architecture and practical materials needed for synthetic cell construction, Nucleus serves as a coordination solution that helps alleviate the strain felt by small teams who must own the entire development stack. The platform emphasizes open science principles with all materials freely shareable, allowing researchers worldwide to contribute to and benefit from the work of others. The Nucleus platform uses the OpenMTA material transfer agreement to allow open sharing of DNA with attribution, the CERN Open Hardware License to permit replication of modules and protocols, and Developer Notes as a documentation and contribution mechanism that leverages the best practices of open scientific communication.
