Hello Reclone Community

You’re all invited to our Community Meeting next week, on 2024-09-25T14:00:00Z. We will hear from Kavi Shah, presenting about Biomanufacturing in South America: the advancements, challenges, and opportunities.

“Beneficial Bio is a non-profit dedicated to fostering biomanufacturing and a circular bioeconomy, particularly in the global south. By interviewing stakeholders from industry, academia, and research institutions, the advancements, challenges, and opportunities within the biotechnology and biomanufacturing sectors in South America were investigated.
A whitepaper was produced which aims to provide a comprehensive overview that can serve as a valuable resource for policymakers, investors, and practitioners alike.
This talk will share some key findings from the whitepaper and in particular discuss the contributing factors to difficulties with reagent supply in South America and potential solutions.”

:pushpin: Reclone Community Meeting Recap

Thanks again for joining us for Kavi Shah’s inspiring talk. He shared about his internship with [Beneficial Bio]: “Biomanufacturing in South America: The Advancements, Challenges, & Opportunities." :hammer_and_wrench:

Here are some highlights from his talk:

:heavy_check_mark: Kavi travelled to Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, and Brazil, where he visited labs, universities, and startups to understand how biomanufacturing is evolving in each national context.

:heavy_check_mark: He identified a strong culture of collaboration, particularly in open science and resource-sharing, but also noted that infrastructure bottlenecks, like expensive imports and customs issues, remain major barriers.

:heavy_check_mark: His white paper synthesises learnings on how locally adapted technologies, regional networks, and policy support can unlock biotech potential in the Global South.
