Engineering Microbes for Environmental Release Webinar Series
We are excited to welcome you back to the EMER Webinar Series for Fall 2026! My name is Alicia Johnson and I am a co-organizer of the EMER series alongside Kiara Reyes Gamas. For the fall, I will be moderating the live discussions and sending out reminders for upcoming talks.
Our Spring 2026 series included an introduction to synthetic biology for the environment, societal and historical implications of these environmental biotechnologies, and simulating relevant testing conditions inside the lab. If you would like to view any of these talks, find them on this YouTube playlist!
The Fall 2026 series will tackle issues in application of these technologies regarding regulation, open-access and ownership, ethics of their use, and designing these technologies to be compatible with nature. Our first talk will be with Dr. Rolando Perez on September 1, 2026 at Noon CT/1 pm ET/10 am PT. Dr. Perez will discuss designing environmental biotechnology to work with nature, not against it.
The talks for the semester are listed below. Feel free to register for a few or all! All talks are free and open for anyone to attend.
