Dear All,
In Ghana, we face significant limitations as enzymes cost many times more than the prices listed on commercial company websites, and delivery often takes several months. This severely restricts both the quality and quantity of research we are able to carry out. The most affected are students who usually have very limited funding and are also timebound.
To address this, we have successfully expressed the Pfu-SSo7d enzyme and are planning to produce other high-demand enzymes. Together with a colleague, we are working toward establishing an open enzyme collection in Ghana.
As we are new to this space, we are particularly concerned about potential issues around patents and intellectual property. We would greatly appreciate any guidance on:
- Resources that can help us understand IP restrictions (e.g., what we can or cannot distribute).
- Best practices for proper citation and attribution.
- Frameworks or case studies of similar open science initiatives.
If there are additional materials or experiences you think could help us, we would be grateful if you could share them with us.
Thank you for your time and support.
