Send us your sequences! Updates to the Open DNA Collections

This thread is for documenting suggestions for new DNA parts for the Reclone Community.

If you want to suggest a new collection toolkit (e.g. Textile Toolkit, Carbon Capture Toolkit, Open Dinosaur Collection), go to: Add your ideas for Open DNA Collections & Toolkits here!

How do I suggest new DNA?

  1. First of all, check what already exists! If your part of interest is not already present, you have a couple of ways to contribute it:

  2. Put the name, sequence and as much information as possible into the Wishlist spreadsheet of Google Drive.

  3. [optional] If you want to be really helpful, follow the Open Enzyme Submission Guide and have a look for original references, patents or other information on IP. If you aren’t able to do this, the Reclone team will take a look.

Will my DNA be synthesised?

We are looking for IP-free reporters, enzymes, affinity tags, regulatory elements or other useful stuff for reagent production and research tool purposes. The Reclone community team and Hub leads will evaluate submissions and check the IP status. DNA will be synthesised if:

  • the Reclone team agrees that it is generally useful for the scientific community
  • it is IP-free
  • there is synthesis budget or capacity available from a lab in the Reclone community (please let us know if you’d be willing to synthesise or otherwise obtain in an MTA-compliant way!)

I’m not sure if what I’m asking for is useful/applicable…

Feel free to ask here on the forum if you’re unsure of if something fits or how to submit parts. You can also email coordination@reclone.org if you’re feeling shy, and our friendly community managers or volunteers will get back to you!
